TITLIS Tower Joins The World Federation Of Great Towers

Welcome to the WFGT, TITLIS Tower

The World Federation of Great Towers is proud to welcome the TITLIS Tower in Switzerland as its newest member.

Standing at 3,020 meters above sea level on the summit of Mount Titlis near Engelberg, the TITLIS Tower blends architecture, engineering and high-altitude views in a truly remarkable Alpine setting. Newly opened to visitors, the tower has transformed an existing communications structure into a new architectural landmark in the Swiss Alps.

The Tower

The TITLIS Tower stands 75.97 meters (249.25 feet) high and weighs approximately 2,100 tonnes. It rises from one of the most demanding environments for construction in Europe, surrounded by rock, snow and glacier at more than 3,000 meters above sea level.

The tower is located at Gerschnistrasse 14, 6390 Engelberg, Obwalden, Switzerland, with the summit reached from Engelberg by the TITLIS mountain transport system.

The project transformed an existing communications tower rather than replacing it entirely. The original steel structure from the 1980s has been integrated into the new design, giving the project both a strong architectural identity and a connection to the history of the summit.

Architecture and Construction

The TITLIS Tower was designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the internationally renowned Basel-based architecture practice. Their design transforms the existing infrastructure into a distinctive cross-shaped steel-and-glass structure, inspired in part by the Swiss cross.

The tower project forms part of the wider TITLIS development programme, which also includes the new TITLIS Peak Station, scheduled for completion in 2029. Construction takes place under extreme alpine conditions, making logistics, engineering and weather resilience central to the project.

The reported construction cost, including the future Peak Station, is approximately US$185 million. The tower’s construction period was three years, with up to 85 workers on the tower at one time.

The completed tower contains 10 stories, six lifts, 327 stairs and approximately 1,135 windows, with around 3,383 square meters of glass.

Horizon Deck

At the heart of the visitor experience is the Horizon Deck, the tower’s panoramic observation platform.

Located around 55 meters above the glacier, the deck sits at approximately 3,074 meters above sea level and provides a stunning 360-degree view across the surrounding Alpine landscape. From the summit, views extend towards Italy, across the Swiss Plateau and towards Germany and France.

The exposed location makes the observation experience particularly distinctive. Visitors are surrounded by glaciers and high Alpine peaks while standing on one of the highest observation platforms of its kind.

Dining and Hospitality

TITLIS Tower is more than an observation structure. Its facilities include Joseph’s Restaurant, offering Alpine casual fine dining with panoramic views at over 3,000 meters above sea level, and Joseph’s Alpine Lounge, providing drinks and small bites in a relaxed setting.

Joseph’s Restaurant opened to the public on June 3rd, 2026, and has 60 seats, while the Alpine Lounge has another 60 seats, giving the tower a combined seating capacity of 120 across its restaurant and lounge facilities.

The tower is also home to an exclusive Rolex Boutique, the highest Rolex Boutique in the world!

More Than a Tower

The TITLIS experience extends well beyond the building itself. Visitors can reach the summit using the TITLIS Rotair, the world’s first revolving cable car. During the Rotair’s 2026 maintenance period, from August to December, summit access is being maintained by the new TITLIS Connect cableway.

Nearby attractions include the Cliff Walk, Europe’s highest suspension bridge, the glacier and the Glacier Cave. The Cliff Walk reaches approximately 3,041 meters above sea level and crosses the south face near the Ice Flyer glacier lift.

The TITLIS Tower officially opened in 2026 and is now welcoming visitors to its Horizon Deck, restaurant, lounge and other facilities. It represents a new chapter for the summit while retaining the existing tower’s role in the history of TITLIS.

Want to experience TITLIS Tower for yourself?

The TITLIS Tower is open 365 days a year, with the mountain transport operating from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. The final ascent to TITLIS is at 3:30 pm, with the final descent at 5:00 pm.

The Horizon Deck is open, offering spectacular 360° views from more than 3,000 meters above sea level. During the current Rotair maintenance period, from 17 August to 11 December 2026, visitors can reach the summit via the new TITLIS Connect cableway.
