A Towering Welcome to the PETRONAS Twin Towers
The World Federation of Great Towers is proud to welcome a true global icon to its ranks: the magnificent PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!
Soaring to 451.9 meters, these twin skyscrapers are the tallest twin towers in the world, and a breathtaking symbol of Malaysia’s cultural richness. Their sleek steel-and-glass design, developed by renowned architect César Pelli, is inspired by Islamic geometric forms and reflects the country’s modern identity and vibrant heritage.
Rising 88 stories above the city, the towers have become one of the most instantly recognizable silhouettes on any skyline. Their signature feature, the world’s highest double-decker skybridge, connects the towers at Levels 41 and 42, offering visitors a unique chance to walk between two soaring landmarks in the sky.
From there, guests can travel even higher to the observation deck on Level 86 of Tower 2, perched at 370 meters above ground. The deck offers sweeping views of Kuala Lumpur’s evolving skyline and features immersive digital displays, scale models, and interactive AR experiences that share the story of the towers and the wider KLCC precinct.
Within the towers, guests can also visit the elegant Malaysian Petroleum Club restaurant, located 170 meters up, or explore exhibitions, gift shops, and more throughout the vibrant complex.
The PETRONAS Twin Towers are just as impressive behind the scenes. Construction began in the early 1990s and took six years to complete, culminating in a grand inauguration on 31 August 1999. Together, the towers contain over 32,000 windows, connected by 29 elevators in each tower, with capacities of up to 52 passengers and speeds reaching 21.6 km/h. The towers are engineered to withstand wind speeds of up to 100 km/h, and sway no more than 1.5 meters at their very tips. Inside, a total of 1,743 stairs lead to the top, while the stainless steel cladding spans a remarkable 65,000 square meters per tower. At the height of construction, around 4,000 workers were active on-site, contributing to one of the most ambitious building projects ever undertaken in Southeast Asia. The towers weigh approximately 300,000 metric tonnes and continue to operate with precision and care.
With over 2 million visitors in 2023, the PETRONAS Twin Towers are one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, and an absolute must-visit for anyone in Kuala Lumpur!
Welcome, PETRONAS Twin Towers! We are so proud to welcome you to the World Federation of Great Towers.
