Seattle’s Most Iconic Climb Returns: Base 2 Space 2025

The Space Needle

Built as the cultural centerpiece of the 1962 World’s Fair, the Space Needle rises 605 feet tall. Inspired by the fair’s theme “The Age of Space”, its futuristic design continues to captivate visitors. Today, it remains Seattle’s most recognizable landmark, offering 360° panoramic views and the world’s first and only rotating glass floor.

Seattle’s Iconic Vertical Challenge

On Sunday, September 28, 2025, the Space Needle will once again open its staircases for Base 2 Space, Seattle’s most iconic vertical run and a proud stop in the World Federation of Great Towers Towerrunning Challenge.

Climbing for a Cause

Base 2 Space is more than a challenge: it’s a mission. Since its launch, the event has raised over $4.5 million for groundbreaking research at Fred Hutch Cancer Center and for local initiatives supported by the Space Needle Foundation. This year is especially meaningful, as Fred Hutch celebrates its 50th Anniversary, continuing to push the boundaries of cancer research and treatment while impacting lives worldwide.

Join the Challenge

The climb begins at 7:30 a.m. (registration opens at 6:30 a.m.). Participants may register individually or as a team at base2spaceseattle.com. A fundraising minimum of $200 per adult (or $100 for youth) is required, with proceeds directly supporting Fred Hutch and the Space Needle Foundation.

Whether you climb, cheer, or donate, Base 2 Space is an opportunity to be part of something bigger: proving that towers can inspire not just awe, but positive impact.

We extend our gratitude to the Space Needle and Base 2 Space teams for bringing this unique event to life, and we wish all participants the very best as they take on Seattle’s most iconic climb!
