Praha TV Tower
A structure has been erected in Prague's Mahler Gardens that no visitor to the capital is ever likely to overlook.
If you have an afternoon off, you ought to visit this monumental edifice. You can treat yourself to a grand view of Prague and the whole of Central Bohemia from the sightseeing compartments, or treat your tummy in the sightseeing restaurant. Enjoy a breathtaking view of the city literally from a bird's eye perspective from three sightseeing compartments nearly 100 meters above the ground.
On a clear day you can see places up to 100 kms away. In 1992, Prague's Petrín transmitter closed down, having carried TV signals for the capital city since 1953. Back in 1978, the decision had been taken to build a new radio communications center for Prague which would meet all the requirements for provision of contemporary telecommunications services.
Ten location variants were evaluated for this extraordinary, special-purpose structure. In the end the Mahler Gardens location in Prague's Žižkov district was selected as the most suitable to cover the Czech capital with TV, radio and other telecommunications signals, and as the best accommodating in respect of city planning, conservation, and flight traffic safety aspects.
